TVC Communications

Cable TV pioneer George Gardner founded what is now TVC Communications in 1952, in Lewistown, Pennsylvania. TVC is the oldest distributor of construction materials and supplies for the cable television, telecommunication and data communication industries.

It all started when George wanted to build a cable television system in Lewistown and had to search hard to find the right parts.
Before long, George had developed a network of suppliers, and a distribution business was born. George’s first cable systems had names like TV Cable of Carlisle and “V Cable of Waynesboro, so he named his new supply company TV Cable Supply, which was eventually shortened to TVC.
TVC continued to develop and expand through changes of ownership in the 1970s and ‘80’s. At the end of the 1980s, management believed the future of distribution in the CATV marketplace was in building a national network of distribution centers located regionally.
During the 1990s, the telecommunications industry saw unprecedented growth, as did TVC. Through acquisition, TVC expanded both geographically and into new and emerging markets. Several of the divisions that exist today were formed as a result of these acquisitions and were integrated into the TVC family.
TVC Latin America, based in Miami, specializes in providing integrated business solutions to the communications industry in South America, Central America, and the Caribbean. TVC Canada supplies the cable, telecom and broadband Industries with products and services. They supply the market through stocking warehouses located across Canada.
The TVC family also includes three proprietary product divisions: White Sands Engineering, MaxCell and Marathon. There is also two dedicated sales, design and support teams; one for outside plant products called Vikimatic; the other is a Satellite Engineering Group, supplying and integrating products and custom services to the CATV, broadcast, & satellite marketplace.
White Sands Engineering, based in Phoenix, Arizona, is the leading manufacturer of custom-made cable harness in the U.S. for the cable television, telephone, satellite, broadcast, data delivery and computer industries.
MaxCell produces textile innerduct. MaxCell allows users to install up to 300% more cable than traditional conduit and innerduct.
Marathon provides products for communications networks. Designed to the highest specifications, including SCTE and UL requirements as applicable, the Marathon product line includes drop passives, pole line hardware, lashing wire, grounding materials, heatshrink and specialty cables.
The Vikimatic sales group provides the outside plant and fiber optic construction industries with specialized products and services needed to build and maintain any type of cable plant. Vikimatic specializes in underground and under-bridge applications. Unlike many traditional sales groups, the Vikimatic team is involved from the design stage through product sourcing and logistics, becoming an integral part of project management.
Satellite Engineering Group (SEG) delivers products and custom services to the CATV, broadcast, and satellite marketplace. SEG also provides design and engineering for the integration, installation and maintenance of satellite and headend networks. Additional services include headend and system prefabrication, satellite antenna farm installation, CMTS deployment, IPTV transition, L-band transport and digital simulcast.
In December 2010, Wesco International WESCO International purchased TVC Communications and its divisions for a purchase price of $246.5 million, subject to certain adjustments.
